Krol Corlett are proud to have transformed the Tiber Football Centre in Toxteth into a vibrant community hub with state-of-the-art facilities. Before the development, the five-acre site had been derelict and abandoned for almost 30 years.
Krol delivered a refurbishment of the existing ground floor building with a first-floor extension, including a stunning glass balcony overlooking the football pitch, as well as brand new changing rooms, educational facilities, multifunctional community rooms, a café, office space, on-site parking and full disability access.
Throughout the project, we worked with Tiber Young People’s Steering Group (TYPSG) on workshops, site visits an engagement. This collaborative process allowed our team to listen, adapt and respond to voices from the next generation, while the young people developed skills beneficial for their long-term future.
Our commitment to delivering high-quality infrastructure has allowed Tiber Football Centre to become an integral part of community life in Liverpool.
The first-class facilities at Tiber Football Centre were designed as multifunctional spaces – such as the educational areas and outdoor event space – to allow for a range of activities and programs. This flexibility ensures the project can adapt to evolving community needs and preferences.
Due to the scope of the project completed by Krol Corlett, Tiber Football Centre is able to engage more than 1,200 young people each week, offering opportunities for sport, personal development, education and community involvement.
The outcomes we delivered went beyond the physical structure at Tiber. Throughout the project we fostered strong relationships with local leaders and young people, creating opportunities for social mobility, education and inclusion in an area of Liverpool deserving of long-term investment and attention.
Tiber is a model of innovation in community development, demonstrating effective strategies in financing, procurement and construction. The success of the development demonstrates how construction can be a catalyst for lasting social change, creating not just buildings, but opportunities that transform lives.
The significance of Tiber Football Centre was defined by a visit from the future King of England, His Royal Highness Prince William, who met with Krol Corlett and TYPSG to hear how their involvement had strengthened leadership skills and deepened connections within the local area.
After a tour of the facilities, Prince William enjoyed a game of football and spoke candidly with members of the community who will directly benefit from Tiber. He was also greeted personally on the pitch by Liverpool legend Sir Kenny Dalglish.
Similarly, current Liverpool stars Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah also took part in events at Tiber Football Centre during the development, bringing hundreds of young people to the facilities to played football with their idols.
Our apprentice Isaak Serrano played a pivotal role in the development. Isaak, who grew up in Toxteth, had a deep understanding of the impact the project would have on the area. His apprenticeship provided hands-on experience as he worked closely with the site team and gained valuable skills to support his future. Isaak’s journey is testament to our commitment to developing young talent and creating training and employment opportunities that directly benefit the local area.
The success of Tiber demonstrates how construction can be a catalyst for lasting social change. Krol Corlett are proud to have created a thriving space that will serve as a foundation for the future of the community.
In addition to expanding its capacity for local and professional sports leagues, the new spaces are a platform for youth initiatives, workshops, mentoring sessions and cultural events. Tiber Football Centre is a dynamic hub where young people can lead, learn and thrive in a safe, purpose-built environment.
Krol Corlett are incredibly proud to have played a part in delivering this landmark development that means so much to the local community. It reflects our core values as a contractor to build not only high-quality spaces, but strong, lasting relationships that help communities grow together.
“Everything went to plan with this project, and I am delighted with the outcome.
A personal highlight was the visit of Prince William, the future King, visiting the facility, meeting the team and enjoying a game of football.
It was not only great for the project, but for the entire community. On behalf of everyone at Krol Corlett, I would like to wish Tiber the best of luck for the future with their building. I am really looking forward to delivering more of this type of project for years to come all over the country.
Tiber Football Centre is a project we will always look back on with pride.”
