  • Refurbishment of a timber borrowed light, including glazing replacement, frame restoration, and new partitions to improve natural light.
  • Window replacements on the main elevation.
  • Refurbishment and heightening of the metal balustrade to meet safety regulations. Installation of new emergency lighting.
  • Added roof insulation and improved access for maintenance

The project significantly improved the school’s energy efficiency, safety, and long-term sustainability.

“This was a very interesting project in many ways. We had to work closely with the school members to access the roof and windows both externally and internally. Our team had to work collaboratively to ensure we were able to create our building site in and around them so as not to disrupt their movements or education. The site team formed fantastic working relationships and this led to the smooth delivery of this project.”

Challenges and Enhancing Sustainability

  • Dual-access scaffolding was required around the atrium, including an internal scaffold in the main school hall — installed over the summer holidays and maintained until the Christmas break. This enabled safe access while ensuring the school remained operational.
  • Complex bridging scaffold system for Safety was constructed over an existing roof, then dropped down to the atrium level, with a perimeter working platform to facilitate safe removal and replacement of the roof structure.  The temporary platform was designed to stop any falling objects or debris during construction and therefore protect those using the school building.
  • Atrium system was craned over the school’s front elevation and carefully installed into the central roof space.
  • Front elevation window works were planned in close collaboration with the school, using MWEPS to ensure classrooms could be made available and returned on schedule with internal decorations and external masonry works completed to a high standard.
  • Specialist lead repairs and installation new flashings while supporting existing roof structures to receive the new atrium.
