The largest of the three projects, valued at £1m, involved a complete refurbishment of the leisure centre.

This includes a new reception area with modern flooring, lighting, and high-quality FF&E, a reconfigured entrance and draught lobby to improve accessibility and waiting space, and a glazed pool viewing screen with upgraded spectator areas.

Wet-side changing facilities and male and female WCs were fully refurbished to enhance comfort and functionality across both wet and dry zones.

Delivering a project of this scale within an operational leisure centre required careful planning, with phased closures, rerouted public access using hoardings, and curtain walling around active swimming areas to ensure safety while minimising disruption for users.

The gym space was also upgraded with updated equipment, including the installation of selected new Concept2 apparatus.

These improvements enhanced performance, safety standards and the overall training environment for centre users.

All works were completed whilst the leisure centre was still operational thereby creating logistical and safety challenges.

The Krol Corlett team worked through in collaboration with the client to ensure minimal disruption to daily operations and maintain a safe, uninterrupted experience for all centre users.

Carrying out works in a live pool environment required careful planning to maintain safety for both visitors and staff.

Access routes had to be regularly adapted as the site progressed, with close coordination with the client to minimise disruption.

The team also addressed inherent issues within the existing building, ensuring that upgrades were integrated seamlessly and delivered to a high standard despite the challenges of working within an operational facility.

Local Supply Chain & Apprentices

Krol Corlett is committed to supporting the local economy by working closely with a trusted local supply chain and creating opportunities for local people.

Across all sites, the team has invested in community impact through the use of local labour and training initiatives, including the employment of a 16-year-old trainee labourer from the area on the Bamber Bridge site.

This approach not only strengthens project delivery but also helps to develop skills, create jobs, and leave a lasting positive legacy within the community.

Mental Health Awareness

Krol Corlett hosted a Mental Health Awareness in the Workplace event at Bamber Bridge Sports Hub in partnership with South Ribble Borough Council.

The session, delivered by Wild Warrior Wellness CIC, provided practical strategies for supporting wellbeing across different industries and encouraged open discussions around mental health.

Attendees also had the opportunity to tour Krol Corlett’s live site at Bamber Bridge Leisure Centre, gaining insight into how the team manages a safe and positive working environment while delivering a major construction project.
