Three Lecture Theatres underwent a transformative renovation:

  • Hele-Shaw Lecture Theatre, located within the School of Engineering building
  • Gossage & Brunner Lecture Theatres’ Donnan Building – Dept of Chemistry.

The primary goal was to create a dynamic learning environment that supports both traditional and collaborative teaching methods, ensuring an outstanding student experience. The project aimed to modernise the space, enhance functionality, and integrate cutting-edge audio-visual technologies.

What We Did

Krol Corlett collaborated closely with the University of Liverpool Estates team. The projects were completed on time and within the allocated budget, showcasing the efficiency and expertise of the collaborative effort.

The scope of works included:

  • Demolition Works:
  • Removal of existing seating.
  • Stripping of floor finishes to facilitate the creation of a rear raised platform area.
  • New Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) Works: Implementation of updated M&E systems to support modern technology requirements.
  • Installation:
  • Seating installation to accommodate various teaching formats.
  • Integration of specialist ash doors for improved aesthetics and functionality.
  • Implementation of state-of-the-art audio-visual technologies to enhance the teaching and learning experience.

  • Joinery: Craftsmanship involving feature wooden batons to add architectural interest.
  • Plasterwork: Application of new plasterwork to ensure a polished and contemporary finish.
  • Ventilation: Installation of new ventilation grilles fixed to vertical concrete steps, ensuring optimal air circulation within the lecture theatre.
  • Decoration Works: Comprehensive decoration works, including new flooring and painting to create a visually appealing and cohesive atmosphere.
  • Acoustic Panels: Incorporation of acoustic panels to optimise sound quality within the lecture theatre.
