Whiston Hospital Purpose-Built Neuromodulation Suite
Project Scope
In October 2023, our expert healthcare team completed a full refurbishment and remodelling of the North of England’s only purpose-built Neuromodulation suite, dedicated to service users with severe or difficult-to-treat depression.
This project was a vital step in providing state-of-the-art facilities and expanding access to ground-breaking treatments. This vital facility was built to respond to the growing body of clinical evidence supporting the effectiveness of Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) in reducing depressive symptoms.
With Merseycare NHS Foundation Trust leading the way, this suite, located at the Knowsley Resource and Recovery centre based at Whiston Hospital, is one of the few NHS Neuromodulation services available nationally.
What We Did
The project involved a comprehensive refurbishment and remodeling effort internally and externally to create advanced facilities designed specifically for neuromodulation treatments and its patients.
This included clinic grade flooring, furnishing, high security, anti-ligature bathrooms, sanitary ware & fittings.

We equipped the suite with cutting-edge equipment and furnishings, as well as technology to support the innovative rTMS treatments.
Impact
This project represents a significant milestone in advancing mental healthcare, particularly those suffering from severe depression. The creation of this suite provides an environment within the North West region that is optimised for this innovative treatment.
One of the most significant impacts of this project is improved access to treatment for depression in the North of England. It can be daunting for people to travel long distances for treatment, separated from their established support networks.
With this purpose-built suite, individuals in the region can now access vital treatment and care closer to home.
