Project Scope

DJI 20260806142127 0048 D

The project involved the construction of a new two-storey teaching facility, known as the Math’s & English Block, at Wirral Met College’s Twelve Quays Campus.

The development was designed to enhance the college’s educational and vocational provision by delivering a modern, purpose-built learning environment to support classroom-based teaching.

Constructed within a live college campus, the project required careful planning and coordination to minimise disruption to students, staff and day-to-day operations while delivering a high-quality facility for future learners.

I would like to personally thank the team at Krol Construction, who have been exceptional partners throughout the project. Their professionalism, commitment and collaborative approach have ensured the successful delivery of this fantastic new facility for our students and community.

Students will benefit from a dedicated, modern environment designed to help them develop the essential Maths and English skills that underpin success in education, employment and life.

We’re also particularly pleased that our construction apprentices have had the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience throughout the project, working alongside industry professionals and seeing first-hand how a major construction development is delivered. Experiences like this are invaluable in preparing the next generation of skilled workers for successful careers in the sector.

Work Completed

At the Maths & English Block, substructure groundworks were completed before the erection of the structural steel frame, marking a key milestone in the programme and progressing the construction of the new teaching facility.

Delivered within a live college environment, the works required careful planning, phased working and close coordination with the college to minimise disruption to staff, students and daily operations.

Existing utility services beneath an adjacent tram line added further complexity, requiring detailed investigation and careful management to ensure the works were delivered safely and efficiently.

“Aside from delivering on time and to budget, one of the most pleasing aspects of this job is how many of the college’s construction students we’ve been able to involve in the project.

The classroom is vital, but there’s nothing like being on site experiencing how a complex project is delivered, the discipline needed to ensure everything goes smoothly, and the camaraderie with all the different trades.  Hats off to all the students involved so far – they’ve done a cracking job and been a great help,”

Social Value

IMG 7475

Throughout the project, Krol Corlett delivered a strong social value programme in partnership with Wirral Met College. Apprentices formed part of the project labour resource, gaining valuable hands-on experience within a live construction environment.

The team also worked closely with the college on the development of a remembrance garden, which was designed, cost planned and delivered by college students under the guidance of Krol Corlett.

Krol Corlett also supported students by providing materials for the Float Your Boat Challenge, helping to enhance practical learning and develop new skills. These initiatives reflected the company’s ongoing commitment to creating lasting social value, supporting education and investing in future generations
