Project Scope
The project involves the construction of two new facilities at Wirral Met College’s 12 Quays campus: a single-storey Motor Vehicle Workshop (MV Workshop) and a two-storey teaching block known as the CEM Block.
The development is designed to enhance vocational and educational provision, delivering modern, purpose-built learning environments within a live college campus.
Ongoing Works
At the CEM Block, substructure groundworks have been undertaken alongside the erection of the steel frame.
Works to the MV Workshop have progressed through substructure groundworks, with highway drainage connections successfully installed.
The project is being delivered within a live working environment, requiring careful planning and control to minimise disruption to staff, students and ongoing college operations.
In addition, the presence of utility services beneath an existing tram line has added complexity, further investigation and careful management during construction.
“Commencement of this project has been smooth to this stage in programme, because of careful coordination with appointed design team members and client engagement.
Challenges remain through delivery of both these projects but maintaining the same team efforts will result in fantastic teaching and learning spaces for both staff and students.”
Social Value
Apprentices will form part of the project labour resource, gaining valuable hands-on experience throughout delivery.
We are also working closely with WMC on a remembrance garden project, which will be designed, cost planned and delivered by college pupils under the guidance of Krol Corlett.
In addition, Krol Corlett has provided material support to students through the Float Your Boat Challenge, further demonstrating our ongoing commitment to supporting education and meaningful social value outcomes.
