A refurbishment programme – supporting enhanced energy efficiency
Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School (BRGS), is an 11–18 mixed academy situated on a hillside overlooking the Rossendale Valley, between Rawtenstall and Bacup.
The school is part of Star Academies – one the country’s leading multi-academy trusts with a growing network of primary and secondary schools across Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Greater Manchester, the West Midlands and East London.
This renovation was designed to upgrade the school’s infrastructure while ensuring minimal disruption to daily operations.

This prestigious event welcomed over 450 guests, including pupils, staff, governors, trustees and members of the Star family, who gathered in Blackburn – for celebrating & honouring those who make a real difference to the trust, its schools and its communities.
The awards ceremony was expertly hosted by Kieran Larkin, Executive Director. Olympic champion swimmer Rebecca Adlington was an inspiring keynote speaker and VIP guest.
Star Academies’ Chief Executive, Sir (Mufti) Hamid Patel CBE, said:
With over 23,000 pupils across our 36 schools, the impact of our collective efforts is profound. Today, we celebrate not just individual achievements, but the shared commitment to excellence that makes our Star family extraordinary.”
“We are delighted with our new atrium roof. The project was delivered on time despite a few setbacks, and the service we received from Krol Corlett was excellent throughout. The site environment was very well managed, and the team remained professional and appropriate at all times. We wouldn’t hesitate to work with Krol Corlett again.”
Bacup & Rawtenstall Grammar School
“This was a very interesting project in many ways. We had to work closely with the school members to access the roof and windows both externally and internally. Our team had to work collaboratively to ensure we were able to create our building site in and around them so as not to disrupt their movements or education. The site team formed fantastic working relationships and this led to the smooth delivery of this project.”
Craig Ward, Regional Manager
Krol Corlett worked closely with the school and partners AHR in meticulously planning work around BRGS’s operations. This approach ensured that health and safety risks were minimised and managed rigorously.
