Krol Corlett Construction was appointed to transform the third floor of the school’s former mill building into a fully equipped technology department.
The works created dedicated teaching spaces for Electronics, Textiles, Resistant Materials, and Computer Studies, along with ancillary areas to support practical learning.
The scheme involved extensive internal remodelling, installation of specialist equipment, and upgrades to building services to meet the requirements of a modern educational environment.
All works were completed in a live school setting, requiring careful coordination to ensure safety and minimise disruption to pupils, staff, and visitors.

The project involved the full conversion of the third floor of the former mill building into a series of specialist classrooms and ancillary spaces. Designed to meet the school’s vision of enhancing STEM and creative learning, the works included:

Overcoming Challenges
Delivering a major conversion project on the third floor of an occupied school building brought logistical and safety challenges. The site was also adjacent to a public highway, meaning deliveries and access had to be carefully planned.
Working closely with the school’s leadership, Krol Corlett developed a phased programme to keep pupils and staff safe while maintaining progress on site.
The school’s openness to engaging with the construction process was invaluable, they understood the long-term benefits the project would bring and were committed to working with us to minimise disruption. Pupils were involved throughout the scheme, taking an active interest in the works.
It is testiment to the School that started with 18 pupils in a former cotton mill in 1987 – now provides an outstanding education to around 750 girls. The school ranks consistently top in Bolton and is among the 10 per cent of best performing schools in the country.

Our project team attended the official opening of the new technology department, meeting with students to hear first-hand how the facilities would enhance their education.
The conversations comes after a multi-million-pound extension to the school’s former mill space, which will allow it to take on more pupils.
This transformation reinforced the positive impact of the project, from expanding the range of subjects offered to creating an improved learning environment that fosters creativity and technical skills.
This engagement strengthened our connection with the school community and highlighted the value of investing in tailored educational spaces.
