At Krol Corlett, we thrive on delivering innovative, eco-friendly solutions to transform spaces for the better. For our latest venture at the University of Manchester’s Fallowfield Campus, we were entrusted with the task of relocating the main reception from Owens Park to the Richmond Park Amenities building, a bold move that promised a welcoming, state-of-the-art Student Hub.
The essence of this project revolved around the refurbishment and strip-out of a disused bar to create the Student Hub.
The renovated space now allows the University to support their 3,500 students living on campus, giving a welcoming reception area, as well as a versatile space to meet and study.
We were honoured to have secured the tender for this pioneering project. The scope of our work encompassed various aspects, including:
Strip out works: This involved the meticulous removal of furniture, fixtures and fittings to create a clean slate for the renovation.
Installation and Modification of IT and services: We ensured that the hub was equipped with state-of-the-art IT infrastructure and essential services such as LV power, lighting, water, and drainage.
Internal modifications: Partition walls were skilfully installed to create new offices and a welcoming waiting area for students.
New floors: The space was enhanced with new, durable flooring that not only adds to the aesthetics, but also ensures functionality.
Decorations, fixtures, and fittings: Attention to detail was key here, as we focused on creating an inviting and pleasant atmosphere in the Hub.
Improved accessibility: To create inclusive access requirements, we enhanced the accessibility of the space to ensure that the hub is welcoming to those with disabilities.
We worked closely with the University’s dedicated estates team, our partners at Rider Levett Bucknall, and trusted supply chain partners. Thanks to this collaboration and efficient project management, we were able to complete the project on budget and on schedule, ensuring it was ready for the new semester!
