Project Overview

KROL CORLETT BRINDLEY THEATRE 2025

Krol Corlett Construction is making excellent progress on the £6.3m extension and refurbishment of The Brindley Theatre.

This landmark project has been carefully designed to strengthen the venue’s cultural presence within the town centre, ensuring it continues to serve as a key destination for the community.

By combining modern facilities with sensitive refurbishment, the development is creating a more versatile and welcoming environment that will support cultural engagement, education, and leisure for generations to come.

Community Focus

Central to the project is the delivery of a new café, library, and dedicated education extension, which will broaden the services and facilities available at The Brindley.

Alongside these key additions, the project also incorporates  alterations to the existing building to modernise and refresh internal spaces.

Externally, the works include upgrades such as landscaping, public realm improvements, and new drainage infrastructure, ensuring the development is supported for long-term use.

“The project has presented many challenges, with substantial structures buried below ground, adjacent property unstable walls, sewer connections and possible road closures. Krol Corlett have provided workable solutions to the client for each of these issues, assisting them in maintaining programme and mitigating costs.
Community engagement has been key to the success of the project so far. Wholesale objection to the scheme from the local community could have escalated to problems on site, but strong community engagement and communication from our site team has resulted in strong links and good relationships with locals.“

Key Milestone Reached!

We have reached the latest milestone in this fantastic project as the building is now watertight. Forty glazing panels of nine sq m each have now been installed to its steel frame extension, allowing work to commence on a range of new facilities at the 424-seat auditorium.

“The installation of the glazing panels was a tricky job, as each panel weighs more than a thousand pounds and it takes an experienced crane operator and ground crew to swing them into place without any drama.”

As the works continue to progress, we are looking forward to the project’s completion and cannot wait to see the finished development come to life for the community.

The transformation of The Brindley Theatre represents far more than a construction project, it is about creating a modern, and inspiring space that will serve people of all ages.

Once complete, the new café will provide a welcoming social hub, the library and education extension will open up new opportunities for learning and collaboration, and the refurbished theatre spaces will enhance the cultural offer at the heart of the town.

This development is set to deliver lasting value, and we are excited to see the positive impact it will have on residents, visitors, and future generations alike after completion in Spring 2026.
