In November, Simon Krol took on his most nerve-wracking charity challenge yet: Strictly for Liverpool Women’s. Partnering with the incredible Amanda, Simon danced the samba to raise funds for a cause that holds deep personal significance.

Liverpool Women’s Hospital has played a vital role in Simon’s life, and stepping out of his comfort zone was the perfect way to give back. Thanks to his determination and the generosity of supporters, Simon raised an outstanding £10,000 for the charity.

For Simon, the Strictly 2024 event was about more than just dancing. It was a chance to support the Bereavement Suite Appeal at Liverpool Women’s Hospital, a cause close to his heart. The Bereavement Suites provide critical care and a peaceful, supportive environment for families grieving the loss of a baby, helping them navigate an incredibly difficult time with compassion and dignity.

Simon had the privilege of a VIP tour of the Bereavement Suites, seeing firsthand how funds from the Strictly event will enhance these vital spaces. Welcomed by Kate Davis (Head of Fundraising) and Loren Slade (Fundraising Manager), he witnessed their dedication to creating a comforting environment for grieving families.

Funds raised will help the hospital:

  • Add soundproofing for privacy and peace.
  • Install calming LED cloud lighting.
  • Provide a pull-down double bed for partners.
  • Furnish the suite with homely comforts like seating, a kettle, and a microwave.
  • Add artwork and soft furnishings to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

This support ensures the Bereavement Suite remains a sanctuary where families can find dignity, comfort, and solace in their most difficult moments.

Liverpool Women’s Hospital holds a special place in Simon’s heart. The hospital provided exceptional care during some of the most challenging moments of his life, supporting him and his wife through three miscarriages. Thanks to the expertise and care of the hospital staff, Simon and his wife were eventually able to welcome three healthy children into the world.

Now that Simon has hung up his dancing shoes, he’s ready to pass the sparkly Strictly baton to the next contestant he’s chosen to take on the challenge. All of Team KC is incredibly proud of Simon’s achievement and his commitment to such a meaningful cause. Well done, Simon – we can’t wait to see what you take on next and cheer on the next!

You can still show your support for Simon and the Bereavement Suite Appeal by donating to the Strictly 2024 Campaign. Every contribution, no matter how small, will go directly to helping Liverpool Women’s Hospital to provide comfort and care to families during their most challenging moments.
